Today was the first real snow we've had since the beginning of December. Adam and the boys spent some time shoveling, building a snowman and sledding in the backyard. The only benefit of having a super hilly backyard is for sledding fun!

Preschool
Adam and I went back and forth trying to figure out if we should register Nolan for preschool part time next year. After talking with our daycare provider and considering pros and cons we decided to sign him up for 2 days/week. We won't be able to shuffle him between preschool and daycare, so he'll attend Adventure Club before and after preschool. One of the biggest benefits is that the preschool is located atthe elementary school he's going to attend. It's a little more work for us having to do two drop offs and two pick ups, but the benefits for him certainly outweigh any inconvenience for us!

When I get bigger . . .
While eating dinner tonight Nolan made a very important announcement. "When I get bigger I'm going to marry Rielle". And so it begins!

Pink eye, flu and double ear infection
I'm not sure why we're surprised every year in January, when both boys typically start to get sick and we end up meeting our family medical deductible by the end of the month. It's January 10th, and since Sunday we've been to urgent care 3 times! Kale was back at urgent care on Tuesday evening for flu like symptoms. He really took a nose dive and became lathargic, every time we touched him he said owie, and he was coughing like crazy. We gave him some Tylenol prior to going to urgent care, and by the time we got to see a dr. an hour+ later the medicine had kicked in and he was doing better. However, the dr. said that based on his fever last weekend and his symptoms he likely has the flu and will have symptoms for the next 7-10 days. Unfortunately there's not a lot we can do for him. The good news is that he seemed to be making a comeback tonight.
Nolan, on the other hand, started devloping a cough/cold yesterday, in addition to the pink eye he got from Kale on Monday. After daycare today he started complaining that his left ear hurt, and was visibly in a lot of pain. Adam took him to urgent care and left with a double ear infection diagnosis and prescriptions for an anti biotic and ear drops for his pain. Poor Nolan was beside himself when they finally got home around 8:20, because he had to get his pink eye drops, Tylenol, the anti-biotic and the ear drops. He kept saying "I just want to go to sleep!" The good news is that once we got past all the medicines he fell right to sleep. We can only hope that they both sleep all night long!
Here's hoping that we're taking our turn on the sick wagon and that it won't be back to visit us anytime soon - and that Adam and I don't get any of it!

What goes around
On Thursday our daycare provider told us one of the little girls was sent home with pink eye. The next day Kale started to cough a little bit and had a runny nose. We didn't think much of it. The boys had a sleep over with the daycare kids on Friday night (which ended up as a surprise date night for me and Adam). We picked them up Saturday morning and took Nolan to his 2nd dentist appointment. He did great - no cavaties! When we got home Kale wasn't looking too hot, but felt hot. I took his temp and it was 101.5. We laid low the rest of the day. This morning he woke up and his eye was crusty and pink - the dreaded pink eye. Adam took Nolan to Sunday School, and when they got back I took Kale to Quick Check - and came home armed with a 5 day prescription of eye drops. Hopefully this isn't something that will be shared with all us!
